More than 300 revellers crowded a Falmouth road last week when a Royal Wedding street party 'got out of hand', with one man tasered and arrested for throwing a bottle at police.

The Marlborough Road event, which was advertised through flyers and the social networking site Facebook, was largely peaceful for most of the day.

But Cornwall Council had not granted permission for the road, which is a bus route, to be closed.

Residents who were unhappy with the celebrations directed most of their anger at the student population, but the man who was arrested was variously described as a Penryn man in his thirties, with the police describing the man they arrested as a 19 year old who 'currently' lives in Falmouth.

The police started to clear the street at around 7pm and the last of the partygoers are thought to have dispersed by 11pm.

Harry Bryant, aged 68, has lived on Marlbrough Road for 26 years.

"To me, a street party is for residents, but it got out of hand, it was too much," he said.

"That was not a street party, it was a student binge. It was chaos."

But Daisy Peters, aged 44, thought it was an enjoyable day.

"I thought it was a really good idea to have a community get together," she said.

"I think there was a lot of people that were adverse to it because they were worried that it might set a precedent, but it was a special day, a happy event and it finished early."

UPDATE: The teenager that tasered and arrested for being drunk and disorderly was later released and cautioned by police who confirmed that he was not a student.
