An air ambulance was called this week when a Falmouth man collapsed at a bus stop on Boslowick Road.

The man, who has been named locally as Dave Evans, needed medical attention following his fall at 11am on Monday.

Angela Sears witnessed the collapse and “felt heartened” by people’s response to Mr Evan’s plight.

She said: “Whilst waiting [for the ambulance] a lady appeared who I now discover was a carer from Alexandra's due to her uniform.

“She pulled over immediately and came up to us at the same time as a paramedic appeared in a small van.

“After putting the gentleman in a better position between the two of them they started CPR and another young man then joined in to support the carer and allow the paramedic to set up the oxygen and the defibrillator.”

Even after the ambulance arrived the others stayed to help, Mrs Sears said, remaining with Mr Evans for nearly 50 minutes while paramedics attached a drip and monitored his pulse.

She said: “The whole team worked closely together not once doubting another’s ability.

“They left only once the gentleman had been put into the ambulance.

“You hear all the time about wrong doings but not how supportive the public are.

“I was moved by the whole experience and however upsetting it was, the quick treatment gave the gentleman the best chance of survival.”

Paramedics transported Mr Evans to the waiting air ambulance which took him to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske.

The road was reopened to traffic by noon.
