Sporty youngsters from a Penryn pre-school were going for gold last week, in a special Olympic-inspired indoor sports day.
The children, from Trelowan Preschool, took part in a variety of races, from walking backwards to skipping sideways and even the “kangaroo hop.”
For their final race, each child was given a specially-made “Olympic Torch” that they carried with them on their last blast towards the finishing line.
An eager crowd of parents and family members came along to cheer on their children at the event, which was held in Penryn College sports dome to avoid the rainy weather.
Carol Allen, pre-school manager, said: “We went with the Olympic theme so we had the torches and the children have been practising for the day - although not too much because of the weather.
“Everybody gets a medal. It's just about being here really. A lot of the children are moving up this year to reception so it was an excuse for one last party.
“I was being heckled by one of them saying 'you haven't said go' yet and telling me I had to take their picture!
“And we are going back now for a coffee morning that will hopefully raise a bit of money for the pre-school.”
As well as their medals, the children were given their handmade “torches” to keep, as a memento of their day of sporting success.
