Arty activities in Falmouth for new Splash Festival (From Falmouth Packet)

Arty activities in Falmouth for new Splash Festival
11:00am Friday 7th September 2012 in Falmouth/Penryn
A week of arty activities is being provided by Falmouth Art Gallery as part SPLASH Festival celebrations in the town.
The festival runs fromtoday, Friday (September 7), until Sunday, September 16 and as part it the gallery is holding a series of free workshops for all ages.
Many of the workshops will feature artists involved in TRAIL – a project in which light, sound and sculpture installations are being created by six South West artists in the town.
The week of activities at the gallery begins with Astounding Adventures, a Victorian themed artistic adventure for families. It will be led by TRAIL artists Camilla Stacey and Tony Johns this Saturday (September 8) between 2pm and 4pm.
Those taking part are warned to put their best face forward as they will be posing for the camera. Then on Monday (September 11) it is walking boots on for the TRAIL Walking Tour.
Between 10.30am and midday gallery director Louise Connell will walk participants through town and discuss all of the TRAIL art installations. The tour will start at the Falmouth Art Gallery and end on Castle Drive. There are limited places on the tour, which can be booked by calling the gallery on 01326 313863.
Tuesday at 3pm will see exhibition curator Tim Craven giving a talk on “British Surrealists”. He will be travelling from Southampton City Art Gallery to talk about the new exhibition showing at Falmouth Art Gallery from September 15 until November 17.
Scrap Sculptures will be taking place on Saturday, September 15 at 2pm. This incredible creative workshop is great for everyone from art students to families. Inspired by David Kemp and the TRAIL artists’ quirky creations, families will be making their own plastic plant sculptures out of recycled materials provided.
