Ten men were arrested in Falmouth this morning following a string of fights that broke out amongst a crowd of 150 people.

Police officers were called to Church Street around 2.30am after they received reports that a man had been refused entry to Club International by door staff.

The man was arrested, but what police describe as "a series of minor clashes" then took place between a group of men who had travelled from the Hayle and St Ives area and local youngsters, "thought to be students."

Ten men were arrested for various public order offences and are now in custody at Camborne and Newquay awaiting police interview.

Inspector Mark Richards, based at Truro, said no allegations of assault had been made so far and the men arrested were from St Ives, Hayle and Falmouth.

He said: "The incident appears to be a series of individual minor altercations among a crowd of around 150 people.

"The main incident was dealt with by local officers with support from door staff and extra officers were called in from other areas of Cornwall to help take the individuals into custody.

“The police and the local community in Falmouth will not tolerate drunk and disorderly behaviour in the town, particularly from those who travel into the town and behave in a manner which they wouldn’t do in their own home towns.”

Officers are studying CCTV and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 49 of 02/09/12.
