Women's Institute

Members were given some interesting and cheerful news before the really important point of the afternoon began, ie the AGM.

Four members visited Helston WI for their annual quiz and came away well pleased with a joint third placing. This inspired the members to enter the county quiz in April.

The Birthday Dinner this year will take place at Budock Vean Hotel on February 24. Transport will be arranged if necessary.

At a recent village coffee morning the WI had a “Choctombola” stall and raised a useful amount of money.

March 22 is the date for the Group Meeting at Mawnan Smith when Peter Lewis will be talking about the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

A member then told about a memory café that is opening in Falmouth. She asked us to inform any carer we know who has a family member, or friend, with dementia. Any help would also be appreciated.

The AGM commenced with the names of people willing to stand for committee read out. No need for a ballot. The secretary then gave her report, which included a resume of the years activities, including the birthday party, group meetings, outings to Rosekelly and Sladebridge garden centre etc. Various fund raising events were also mentioned. She said that the varied programme was much enjoyed. The financial statement followed and Pippa said that the funds were very healthy but did remind members that a few subs were still due. The statement was approved by members. The president’s report followed. She said that her highlight of the year was visiting the AGM in London. Back in Budock she said we had sadly lost two members this year. Our thoughts were with their families. She thanked the committee members for the teas and other jobs that are necessary for the running of the institute, also, most importantly, all members, for turning out in all weathers and making the meetings enjoyable. Jean Head, retiring president was thanked by Barbara Johnson.

The election of the new president then took place and Jean was re-elected.

Whilst the members settled down to a delicious tea and chat, the new committee retired to hold their first meeting.
