More than 120 business people from all over Cornwall gathered at Goonhilly Earth station to hear about the exciting opportunities that the use of digital technology creates for business growth.

They were attending a one-day Connect to the Future technology showcase event organised by Superfast Business Cornwall, which looked at how digital technology could boost business communication.

Superfast Business Cornwall is a programme of business support fully funded by the European Regional Development Fund to help businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly understand, adopt and exploit digital technology for growth.

The full day event included workshops, keynote speakers, ask the adviser sessions with Superfast Business Cornwall digital business advisers, networking opportunities and tours of Goonhilly. The keynote speaker was Dr Simon Moores, an internationally recognised technology thought leader, who advises businesses and governments on the opportunities and applications of emerging technologies. He inspired the audience with his perspective on how we are at a unique point where many technology changes are converging to drive the evolution and direction of businesses of all sizes.

Garry Barter, CEO of Cornwall-based AI company Hertzian, gave the afternoon keynote and explained how advanced technologies like AI can revolutionise the way that all businesses operate.

Sebeail Fowell, programme and partnership manager for Superfast Business Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said:

“We’ve had great feedback from the delegates. The room was buzzing with enthusiasm and we made connections on the day that have great potential for new business collaborations. I think what really appealed to people was the combination of cutting-edge insight and practical applications giving information that they can apply to their own businesses today.

“Our role is to help businesses embrace the potential for digital technology to boost business performance and reduce costs. Our team of digital business advisers work with businesses giving impartial information and advice. They are an experienced IT team so are well placed to follow up the many discussions from the day.”
