Alan Burton of the Helston Railway Preservation Society’s was the speaker at the group’s monthly meeting. In a fascinating talk he sketched out the history of the Helston Branch Line and the subsequent history of the preservation society. The Helston Railway Act provided for construction of a branch railway from the junction at Gwinear Road to Helston. When enough finance was raised the work started in 1882. The development of the line was not smooth but by May 1887 there was a grand opening.
