Sunday was the Fourth Sunday after Trinity and the first of the new Family Eucharist, celebrated by Father Mark Mesley at St Michael and All Angels Church.
The format of the service had been modified to be more “family friendly” than the usual parish mass with no incense. Brenda Pike played the organ in the absence of Stuart Paul and Mr D G Barnicoat and Mr J B Bray were the servers.
The introit hymn was “Morning has broken.” After the collect, Mary Miller read the first lesson from Ezekiel chapter 2 v 1-5. Fr Mark read the responsorial Psalm 123 “Our eyes look to the Lord our God until He shows us His mercy.” Anne Mesley read an abridged version of the second lesson from 2 Corinthians chapter 12 v 2-10.
There was not gradual hymn and Fr Mark proclaimed the gospel from St Mark chapter 6 v 1-13. In his sermon said: “What is the link between Jesus Christ, St Paul and St Peter? They were all rejected, but they persevered and proclaimed that all should repent.”
The eucharist followed after the intercessions, in which Daniel Pridham joined Fr Mark. The offertory hymn was “Hail Redeemer, King divine” and “Amazing Grace” was sung during the communion.
Fr Mark gave the notices for the week: Wednesday, 10am, weekday mass at the Church of the Holy Spirit (Father Simon from Malawi will be the guest speaker); 2.30pm prayer group meets at 11 Trevethan Court. Friday, 10am, weekday mass at St Michael’s Church. Sunday, Sea Sunday, 10am – the congregation will be joined by members of the Falmouth Mission to Seafarers; 5pm, Evensong, with the first talk in a series on the Apostles Creed.
The recessional hymn was “Teach me by God and King.”
