The Rev Stephen Tudgey was the celebrant at the 8.30am said communion, officiated at sung matins and led intercessions. Mike White and Liz Martin read lessons and the guest preacher was Father Ian Froom. The choir anthem which tied in with the theme of the sermon was “Away with gloom, away with doubt”, a modern unaccompanied Easter piece by Barry Ferguson. Lance Foy and Angus Webster shared the organ accompaniments and voluntaries and Angus concluded the service by playing the “Finale” from Symphony No One by Vierne, with most of the congregation remaining seated until the conclusion.
Lay reader Jan Winslade officiated at sung evensong and took the intercessions and Alan Pearson and Anne Hennessey read the lessons. The choir sang “All in the April Evening” by Sir Hugh Roberton. Organ voluntaries were pieces by Wesley and “Easter Voluntary” by Douglas Guest.
The choir recently held their annual meeting at the end of a very successful and busy year. Several concerts have taken place along with a host of special, well attended services. The choir repertoire has been broadened and several new anthems learnt with anthems sung at most services during the year. Choir numbers have held up with many choir members able to take solo parts. Eileen Rogers was re-elected as choir chair with John Pyatt as treasurer, Angela Snell retired as secretary and Serena Stewart elected in her place. The parish priest congratulated the director of music and the choir and assistant organists Angus Webster and Michael Hoeg for their excellent contribution during the year.
Events this week: Thursday, 9.30am, babies and toddlers; 10.30am. said communion; 11.15am, prayer group in the Warrior Chapel. Saturday, 2pm, wedding of chorister Libby Snell to Bradley Raison. Sunday, 8.30am, said communion; 10.30am, sung eucharist; 6pm, sung evensong.
