On Friday evening the choir attended the launch of “The Friends of King Charles the Martyr Church” at the Poly and provided a taste of choral music with anthems and madrigals. Choir soloist was Isabelle Taylor, Angus Webster played a movement from a Beethoven piano sonata and a presentation was given by Chris Smith, local architect. A panel answered questions and guests received a glass of wine at the reception.

The 2012 series of lunch-time concerts got off to a good start and featured Viva Voce, a chamber choir from the Uni conducted by James Bellamy. Isabelle Taylor, chorister with a beautiful soprano voice, sang solo items and was ably accompanied by Jo Courtney on piano.

The Rev Stephen Tudgey was the celebrant at the 8.30am said communion and he presided and preached at the 10.30am sung eucharist, assisted by Sarah Corbett, server. Liz Martin and Jane Hulbert read the lessons and Julie Foy led intercessions. Prayers were said at all services for management and staff of the Falmouth Beach Hotel. The choir sang the communion anthem “The Lord`s my Shepherd” by Howard Goodall, Isabelle Taylor sang the solo and Angus Webster accompanied on piano and provided organ voluntaries.

The priest-in-charge officiated and preached at sung evensong. Robert Martin and Julie Foy read the lessons and the choir sang the anthem “Away with gloom, away with doubt” an unaccompanied Easter anthem by Barry Ferguson. Lance Foy played the concluding organ voluntary “Evensong” by Easthope Martin.

Recent visits by cruise ships to Falmouth have brought a large number of visitors to the church. Events this week: Thursday, 9.30am, babies and toddlers; 1-.30am, said communion; 11.15am, parish prayer group in the Warrior Chapel. Saturday, 11am guided tour of the church for the Friends of KCM prior to the lunchtime concert.

Michael Hoeg, organist, is the guest artiste at the Saturday lunchtime concert at noon, free entry - retiring collection. Future in May: 19, Aberfal Oggymen with organist Lance Foy; 26, St Francis Community Choir with Karen Jones; 31, 7.30pm, visit of Cornwall Youth Choir with Chris Gray and Luke Bond and choral scholars from the Cathedral - tickets £5.00 on the door.

On Saturday at 11am there will be a guided tour of Falmouth parish church of King Charles the Martyr, for all members of the newly formed Friends of KCM church. Any people who would like to support the church with events and fundraising are welcome to join in this guided tour. This will be followed by a lunchtime concert by organist Michael Hoeg.

Bell ringers at KCM church are planning to welcome the Olympic torch as it passes the church on the morning of Saturday, May 19 with joyful bells to celebrate the torch being taken through the town of Falmouth.
