Instead of the usual Methodist Church service held on the last Sunday of Flushing Regatta Week, a concert was performed on the first Sunday, July 27 at 6pm, outside on the Sailing Club Quay, by Dan Homes, a singer/songwriter from Chicago, Illinois, who after his tour down through England, finished with an excellent performance in Flushing and, what a treat it was for the very large audience.

To his guitar, he sang for an hour starting with “We walk with the Lord” and one of his songs which he wrote himself entitled “Little Bare Foot Girl”, was inspired by the poor people who live in the Appalachian Mountains. Another song was based on the Beatitudes, also known as The Sermon on the Mount.

The very windy weather did not dampen the spirits of either Dan or the audience and as he sang one could see the reflection in the very large window behind him of the boats as they passed by on the sparkling water, one being the Enterprise Boat which was to pick passengers up at 7.30pm for a magical mystery tour as part of the Regatta Week. Dan said that his theme song is “When the journey is long” in which are the words “I will be my brother’s keeper and he will keep me”. The audience joined in with the words and actions of some of the songs and the Vote of Thanks was given by Morwenna Bennett.

Refreshments were served afterwards - A truly lovely evening.
