Mabe Ladies Choir

The ladies entertained the Penryn Federation when they held an extra special meeting to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on Friday.

Prior to the concert the Federation members enjoyed a "Jubilee Tea" and red, white and blue was the theme for the event with the ladies also entering into the spirit of the evening by wearing a combination of red, white and blue colours. Mary May (Federation Chair) introduced the choir and led everyone in the singing of a hymn followed by "The Lord's Prayer".

The Federation members were invited to sing-a-long with the choir led by Manda Ward, musical director, singing some old popular war-time songs. Humorous and witty verses were recited by ladies Ann Libby and Rose Webber, to the amusement of the audience, and a very special performance was given by nine-year-old Eifie Ward playing her violin accompanied by Rico Gerber the choir's accompanist, playing music they had both arranged for the occasion. A keyboard duet by Rico and Sue Whitmore, deputy conductor, was played in their very own inimitable style much to everyone's delight and a vocal solo was performed by Elaine Miller.

Margaret Harrison thanked the choir for such a varied and entertaining programme of music and verse and warmly invited the choir to come again to what is becoming a regular annual event. Refreshments, provided by the Federation, were much appreciated by the choir which now looks forward to its fund-raising fete to be held at Mawnan Smith Memorial Hall on Saturday, July 14.
