MAWGAN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: Jean Wattis welcomed members and more new members to the November meeting.
Since the October meeting members at Mawnan Smith have hosted another successful Autumn Fayre and attended the Helford River Group meeting at Constantine.
The Christmas lunch is to be at the Meudon Hotel on November 22. Arrangements for the “Over 60’s” village party were announced, this event is kindly sponsored by the Rendlesham Trust and members were informed that the December meeting would also be a party with entertainment by the drama group.
The speaker was Penelope Prail whose title “A funny job for a woman” had many people guessing as to her occupation. She had however been employed as a shipping agent with Inchcape, based in Piraeus and responsible for obtaining all the needs of the ships under her care. This entailed anything from fuel, flowers, prescriptions for passengers and chasing luggage lost by the airlines.
A vote of thanks was given by Gill Pascoe and the competition for a “Humorous ornament” was judged by Miss Prail: 1, Marion Collins; 2, Pat Hughes; 3, Jenny Ragg.
