Mylor Flower Club
10:25am Tuesday 14th June 2011 in Mylor
Members met at the Ord Statter Pavilion on June 6 to enjoy an evening of creative designs by local demonstrator Jenny Ragg (Mawnan Smith) who used the title “Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer” as inspiration for her five arrangements, which were raffled at the close of the evening. She combined useful advice with reminiscences of her recent visit to the Chelsea Flower Show, so it was a very pleasurable meeting.
Her interpretation of her subject title included a luscious picnic hamper filled with red and cream blooms supplemented by strawberries; a hazy watery effect achieved with grasses, lavender, roses and iris and a crazy arrangement of clashing red, orange and pink from which arose orange halves on sticks. Summer was represented in two different ways, one a vertical group of sunflowers with further grouping of sunflowers, orange gerbera and iris around the base and the other a long linear arrangement in the continental style suitable for a table decoration using garden flowers available at this time of year in subtle shades of pink, blue, cream and dark red.
She judged members’ competition entries for “A Pot of Summer Colour:” 1, Irene Gardiner with a sumptuous arrangement of roses; 2, Sylvia Ollerenshaw; 3, Elizabeth Doidge.
On July 4 Heather Werkmeister (Truro) will demonstrate her ideas of “My Floral Passion” and the club competition is a petite exhibit in a traditional design.
There is no meeting in August but on September 5 the meeting will be held at the Tremayne Hall at 7.30pm when it will give an opportunity for local residents to join members for an evening and discover the joys of flower arranging. Guests are warmly welcomed - any enquiries please contact Jean Frith on 01326 372071 or Margaret Underwood on 01326 312499.
