Across Helston and the Lizard peninsula, crowds gathered to stand in silent respect for those who gave their lives in service of their country.

In Helston the parade mustered at the Co-op car park at 2.30pm with the march leaving the Co-operative Store Car Park at 2.45pm to St Michael’s Church for a 3pm service. The parade paused to give a salute at the Guildhall on the way to the church.

A wreath laying service took place following the service followed by the parade marching to the Garden of Remembrance, where crosses were laid and a two minutes’ silence observed at 11am. The Helston Branch of the RBL also put on a Remembrance Day concert at St Michael’s Church at 7pm, with Helston Town Band and Four Lanes Male Choir.

In Porthleven, the town band led the Remembrance Day Parade for the Service of Remembrance at Fore St Methodist Chapel at 2.30pm. This was followed by a parade to the port’s War Memorial for the laying of wreaths. In Mullion there was a marvellous turnout for the Mullion branch of the RBL’s service at the War Memorial at the parish church.

Archie Roberts, a 12-year-old pupil from Mullion School and a member of St Keverne Band played the Last Post and Reveille. The afternoon Parade was led by the Wendron Band, as they have done for many years, with Alan Davis from Camborne acting as the parade marshal.

The service was held in the Chapel and once again very well supported by the various organisations in Mullion. Both Royal British Legion standards were also on parade. There were also Remembrance Day services at Coverack and Sithney.
