Coverack lights up for Christmas

First published in Helston

Known in the area for its annual festive lights display, Coverack was lit up for Christmas once again on Saturday night.

The village was blessed with a clear, dry night for the switch on, which this year was carried out by local resident Joan Kearsley MBE.

The Coverack Village Christmas Tree Night celebration included a procession of children in the village and pupils from Coverack Primary School, who carried handmade lanterns.

St Keverne and Coverack Brownies and Guides then sang before the countdown to the tree being lit.

Before pressing the switch, Mrs Kearsley thanked all those who worked so hard in the village to put on such a beautiful display of lights, with the impressive tree donated by Michael Tylor.

She also thanked everyone who turned out to support the event.

Once the lights had been switched on Father Christmas arrived in his horse drawn sleigh to give a present to every child that attended.

The Illumination Brass Band played Christmas carols, adding to the festive atmosphere, and a team of volunteers worked hard providing hot food.

Donations from the community help the Christmas lights continue to run and the Coverack Christmas tree committee not only organises the lights in the village but also helps disadvantaged children in the area, as well as providing gifts on Christmas Tree Night for all the children.
