St Keverne Parish Council has taken over control of the village’s public toilets as of Monday.

Speaking at last week’s meeting of members, council chairman Russell Peters thanked councillor Bill Frisken and clerk Grace Hatton for the time they had spent on the takeover.

He said: “It’s in the interests of the parish that we take them on. I don’t see how we can ever survive without public toilets.

“I was born here and live here – it means everything to me and I’m sure to a lot of other people.”

In response Mr Frisken said: “Our chairman Councillor Peters has done a wonderful job in making sure the people of this parish and visitors to this parish will be able to use public toilets in the future.”

He added that the parish would not have to “put their hands in their pockets” to pay for the takeover, due to some clever balancing of the council’s assets.
