'Cheeky' way to start career for Port chip shop owner's daughter
11:00am Saturday 6th April 2013 in Helston
It was a case of being in the right 'plaice' at the right time for the daughter of Porthleven fish and chip shop owner Roland Lowery when she bumped into former MP turned ex Mr Cheeky Girl Lembit Obik.
The chance meeting - which, to add to the unusualness of the tale, took place onboard a cruise ship - means 18-year-old Rosie Lowery, whose father owns Roland's Happy Plaice, has taken the first step on an exciting career path.
Rosie, from Mullion, was on a family holiday when it was brought to her attention that a fellow passenger had compared her 'look' to that of late singer Amy Winehouse.
The Truro College student sought out this person and got chatting - completely unaware at this time of his colourful history.
Rosie told PPV: “I thought he was just another passenger, but someone in the party said that he used to go out with one of the Cheeky Girls. I asked him, was it Gabriella or Monica? He was most impressed that I knew their names!”
The man turned out to be none other than ex MP Lembit Opik who is now attempting to forge a career as a manager.
“At first I did not know who he was and then I realised that he had been on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Come Dine With Me and Have I Got News For You,” added the teenager.
So began a new friendship between Lembit and her family, with Roland joining him for some onboard quizzes and the whole family meeting for drinks.
Roland and Lembit decided to keep in touch, leading to them meeting up in London with Rosie when they visited a David Bowie exhibition.
Over a drink Lembit mentioned that he was managing a couple of bands and a young singer called Rozii Chaos.
He was trying to get a 'style' for Rozii and, as he knew Rosie wanted to be a photographer/stylist, he asked if she would meet with her and help.
The next day Rozii travelled from her home in Southampton to London and after Rosie did an impromptu photo shoot in the hotel Lembit and Rozii invited her to Southampton for a full shoot and makeover.
“This will be a great chance for me to show what I can do, said Rosie. “It's the start of two careers - Rozii Chaos's and mine.
"Lembit knows a lot of people both in politics and the showbusiness world; you never know who might need a restyle. It's very exciting and a great challenge.”
