Calling all Helstonians – your town needs you to help get it ready for Flora Day and beyond with this year’s Helston Town Tidy.

Last year around 60 volunteers collected more than 250 bags full of rubbish and this time members of the Helston Business Improvement Partnership Aesthetics Group, which is co-ordinating the event, are hoping to double that success.

Organised tidying sessions will be held in the town between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20, as well as between 4pm and 7pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 21 to 25 inclusive.

Everyone is invited to help, regardless of age, and already local residents, the town’s business owners, a team from RNAS Culdrose and those who simply enjoy the spectacle of Flora Day have been signing up for Town Tidy Week.

Aesthetics Group member Alison Brown said those wanting to help out should meet outside the Guildhall by Lloyds Bank at the start of each session, where they will be provided with gloves, black bags, litter pickers fluorescent jackets and any other equipment needed.

Alison said: “We will be concentrating on specific areas, litter picking, painting, weeding and generally tidying. The team from Culdrose, for example has already agreed to work in Furry Way, scraping, cleaning and cutting back the brambles.”

All those who take part will be invited to a post tidy thank you evening where they can celebrate their success with a pasty.
