Helston Community Hospital saw almost a 50 per cent rise in fundraising from its annual summer fete this year.

Taking place last Wednesday, the event welcomed supporters and relatives of patients to enjoy a variety of stalls and refreshments, including cake and strawberries.

It was organised by the League of Friends of Helston Community Hospital.

Assistant secretary Wendy Wallis described it as “a very pleasant and successful afternoon,” saying: |“A very good effort on everyone's part and our thanks go to the support from our community.

“The weather certainly played a big part and it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves.”

The fete raised just over £1,442, far better than any other event than in recent years.

Ruth Avery raised £532 alone, raffling a handbag from Harrods.

Mrs Wallis thanked Tiffany Truscott of Radio Cornwall for opening the fete.

A supporter of the hospital for many years, she gave a brief rundown of |how the money raised in the past has been spent at the hospital, with the Jack Johns Suite, conservatory extension, building the extension to the car park, Sensory Portair and many other items.

“Thank you to you our supporters for making this possible,” said Mrs Wallis.
