THE rain that had been forecasted for Saturday held off for the 68th annual Trewennack Horticultural Show.

The show was described as a “great success” and was “well supported by both exhibitors and the public” by show secretary Susan Bennetts.

Introduced by the president Ronnie Williams, the show was opened by Councillor Loveday Jenkin and the prizes and cups were presented Mr Ivor Treloar, who has recently retired following many years as chairman of the show.

In total there were 1,100 entries, including 168 entries from 28 exhibitors in the children's classes.

On entry to the marquee, visitors came upon an array of home baking, with entries of “a very high standard.”

The flowers provided a “beautiful display” with a large variety of colours and perfumes on show.

The children's entries, including cookery, showed much creative ability and the egg section continued to be popular with a large number of entries.

The floral art section was re-introduced this year and attracted a number of beautiful entries, whilst the handicraft section also proved a challenge to judge, due to the standard of the skills exhibited, with a good number of pictures displaying a variety of skilled brush work which were “a pleasure to look at,” said Mrs Bennetts.

Refreshments were served in the chapel hall by a willing team of helpers, ably led by Maureen Haywood.

The chairman, Mr John Strike, thanked the committee for the work they have put into making this another successful show.
