Mullion Fire Station has declared itself “overwhelmed” with the support and success it received for its annual open evening last Thursday.
The weather could not have been better and people began arriving even before the official 6pm start – and they continued to turn up, resulting in what has been described as a record turnout.
After the disappointing news that the county’s aerial ladder platform was no longer available to demonstrate its impressive capabilities, Mullion’s fire crew decided they would give a road traffic collision demonstration instead.
They showed how they would safely extract a live casualty on a spinal board, after removing the roof of a “crashed” vehicle.
A second demonstration, showing what not to do in the event of a chip pan fire, gave spectacular results.
The Fire and Emergency Support Service vehicle, run by volunteers from the Red Cross, was also there for visitors to look around.
Money was raised on various stalls, with cakes for sale, a treasure map game to play and hot dogs and burgers served throughout the evening. There was also a raffle and information about the Fire Fighters Charity.
A total of £842.75 was raised, which has been described as an “outstanding amount” and the evening judged “a huge success.”
Mullion Fire Station has thanked everyone that turned up on the evening, and especially for the continued support by the local people who donated money, cakes and prizes for the raffle.
