Helston Town Council was due to meet last night, Tuesday, to discuss necessary maintenance work to be carried out on the town’s Guildhall.

Councillors met in the Guildhall to discuss a list of major defects with the building, as well as other maintenance issues, including many which may have long term effects on maintenance and repairs.

Work to be considered included: enlarging the parapet, gutter outlets and associated downpipes; liaising with the council regarding adding asphalt between the road line and the building line as the road has started to crack away from the building and there is vegetation growth and some deterioration in this location; adding fire proof panels to the plant room ceiling, carrying out various repairs to rotten joinery, and carrying out waterproofing to the parapet wall.

The council also considered the removal of vegetation and localised repointing to the external walls, and carrying out an inspection of all the ledges by a cherry picker or scaffolding as water is tracking in to various parts of the property along corbelling and decorative details, consider removing all dry lining to the building as in some areas this is concealing damp issues.
