A fundraising group set up to support Helston Community Hospital has marked its diamond anniversary in style.

The League of Friends celebrated 60 years of fundraising with a cheese and wine evening at the hospital, which was well attended by members and people in the community.

The town’s mayor Mike Thomas also made an appearance, to offer his congratulations on reaching the landmark anniversary and give his thanks for the support the group has shown the town’s hospital over the years. He was joined by his wife Briege, mayoress, while his words were echoed by league president Dr Ken Whittle.

The evening included a talk from Helston historian Martin Matthews. He fascinated the group with his tales of the town in years gone by.

It was also a chance for the league to enjoy relaxed conversation over a glass of wine and a variety of cheeses.

The group fundraises to improve the lives of patients at the hospital and over the years has overseen the building of the conservatory, the creation of a sensory garden and an extension to the car park.
