St Keverne Male Voice Choir celebrated a landmark anniversary at the weekend — 70 years after singing up a storm to support returning World War II troops.

The group was joined for the 70th anniversary concert at St Michael’s Church in Helston on Sunday by Marazion Apollo and St Stythians male voice choirs.

The three choirs between them boast a rich history, with a combined age of nearly 250 years.

The choir from St Keverne first performed in 1944, when they gave a concert including Bless This House, Bird Songs at Eventide, and a selection of hymns, which raised £120 to support troops returning from the war.

Marazion Apollo is a male voice choir reputed to be the oldest in Cornwall, having been formed in 1904, amd St Stythians has carried on singing well into retirement age, having surpassed 65 in 2012.
