A joint beach clean will take place in Gunwalloe this Saturday as part of a national clean up of the country’s coastline.

Kennack Diving is this year joining forces with the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, with teams from both organisations tackling the shoreline and water at Fishing Cove.

They will be collecting rubbish as part of the national Marine Conservation Society Beach Watch event, which takes place annually and gives the chance to survey what is found on the UK’s beaches.

The cleanup will take place from 10am this Saturday and continue until around midday.

Volunteers are meeting in the car park at Fishing Cove, down the road opposite the Halzephron Inn.

This year everyone taking part will receive a voucher for free entry to the seal sanctuary.

Bags and gloves will be provided by the organisers. It is hoped that there will also be an underwater clean, weather permitting, by qualified divers.

Children from schools in the area are expected to be taking part and David Roberts, co-owner of the diving school and event organiser, said all were welcome.
