An appeal started in Helston to change Bank Holiday on-street parking restrictions has so far received the backing of 25 other councils in Cornwall.

However, Helston mayor Mike Thomas hopes his bid to make parking the same on Bank Holiday Mondays as on Sundays will receive further support before the responses are submitted to Cornwall Council.

Mr Thomas said his motion would bring Cornwall in line with many other counties, adding that 89 per cent of principle councils already adopted this policy.

He had hoped for more letters from support, after writing to all town and parish councils in Cornwall, describing the response as “disappointing.”

He added: “I think it’s down to the summer period. I would ask members for their support that we send a second request to town councils to remind them, if they would like to reply.”

However, councillor Jonathan Radford-Gaby described it as still a “significant enough response” to submit, even if there were no more responses.

It was unanimously agreed that a follow up reminder should be sent.
