Learning was made fun for potential new students of Helston Community College when they took part in an open evening.
An estimated 250 families joined staff and existing students at the event, enjoying a tour of the facilities and getting to take part in a range of different activities designed to show the variety of subjects on offer.
Assistant head teacher, Nigel East, said the college was “very pleased” with the success of the evening, adding: “It was one of the biggest we have had over the last few years.”
New head teacher Donna Bryant gave two keynote addresses during the evening, to packed school halls.
Current students then demonstrated different lessons, such as cookery, drama and sculpture, with the visitors also getting to try their hand at activities, including science experiments and jewellery making.
Many of the young visitors were in year six, their final year at primary school, and trying to decide which secondary school they should attend from next September.
However, there were also people from the community keen to see the work of the school – something that Mr East said the college was pleased to see.
“I’d like to thank the community for supporting us,” he said. “It was a lovely buzzing atmosphere and I think everyone enjoyed themselves – staff and visitors.”
