Pupils and family members at Porthleven Primary School put on their dancing shoes for a Strictly Come Dancing styled fundraising event last Thursday.

The daytime dance raised more than £2,000 for the ongoing development of the junior playground, as well as community sports facilities.

A disco ball and lights completed the transformation from school hall into dance hall.

The free event was also aimed at encouraging health and fitness for both the children and the parents.

This and fundraising aside, the day was mainly about having a bit of fun and bringing the community together with kids as young as two taking part and adults up to 90 gracing the dance floor.

Leigh Yates, from Porthleven Primary School parent teacher association, said that the day was about, “bringing the heart and soul of the community together through fun and fancy footwork. The kids loved having a laugh at their parents.

“It didn’t take itself too seriously, and this was one of the keys to its success, everyone was welcome.”

The dance was part of continued fundraising to improve sport and community facilities in Porthleven. It was sponsored by Barclays, the Cellar Charity Shop, Porthleven Brewers and Porthleven school PTA.

Future fundraising plans include a fireworks display and a “winter wonderland” event.
