Town councillors have supported plans to build a detached annex in the grounds of 36 Bosmeor Road in Falmouth, but want a condition tying it to the main house so it cannot be sold off as a separate property.
The planning application seeks consent to demolish the existing sub standard double garage/utility and toilet and replace it with a new detached double garage with utility and shower room to the rear and family annexe accommodation above. The proposals also include a Juliet balcony dormer window and rooflight.
Councillor Grenville Chappel, chairman of the town’s planning committee, said: “This is one of the largest plots on that road and it lends itself nicely to two properties, but at the moment we are just looking at a new annex. It looks very much like a house, but there is nothing on planning grounds for us to refuse it.”
Concerned that the new building could be sold separately, Councillor Steve Eva added: “I would support this, but with the condition it must remain within the curtilage of the main house and not be sold as separate. People do need to build things for their family to live in.”
The committee has recommended that Cornwall Council grant approval subject to the new building being tied as ancillary domestic use to 36 Bosmeor Road.
