Those looking for work in the Helston and Lizard area were given a helping hand at a one-day exhibition in the town.

The event was held by the Helston and Lizard Work Project, which took over the ground floor of the Guildhall with invited representatives from organisations in the surrounding area.

Among those with stands were the National Trust, Rebuild South West, Volunteer Cornwall, Active Plus, Lizard Pathways and Job Centre Plus.

The event was funded through the Department for Work and Pensions.

Justine Hornsby, from the project, said: “We are using that money and helping these people progress forwards, back into work.

“Some of our customers are already doing regular volunteering within the Helston and Lizard area, others have had successful job outcomes or are doing community projects in the Helston area.”

She added that visitors could talk to the organisations and find out about the different opportunities they offer.

The Helston and Lizard Work Project is planning a number of schemes and events between now and Christmas.
