A Helston vets' practice with almost 150 years history celebrated expanding its premises with an open day last week.
Water-Ma-Trout based Head and Head showed customers around its new expanded premises, which include a diagnostic laboratory, isolation kennels, and staffroom with sleeping quarters to allow overnight monitoring of patients.
Retired partner John Head cut a ribbon and gave a speech to open the proceedings, touching upon the history of the practice from when his grandfather Charles Hoadley opened it in the 1870s in Coinagehall Street.
Paul Riley, the practice's small animal director, said: “Everybody enjoyed it. The clients didn't know what they would see, they just see little consultation rooms and didn't realise all the equipment we have got behind the scenes.”He said one person even commented “it's like a human hospital.”
While their parents were being shown around the surgery, including new x-ray and ultrasound facilities and a new prep-room for operations, the children were kept entertained with face painting and a quiz.
He added: “We're going to have regular open days. This will be the first of many.”
