There was an early Christmas present for Breage School when more than £700 was raised at a festive fete on Saturday.

Organised by the Parents and Friends Association, which pays for activities for pupils such as pantomime tickets and the Eden Project, a total of £776.17 was raised.

The group has said it will also match whatever is raised by one of the classes at the end of their fundraising for new furniture. Blue Class raised an additional £150 at the weekend towards this cause.

Shawna Ford, from the Parents and Friends Association, said the event was well attended, adding: “It went amazingly – I’m very pleased.

“Thank you to everybody who helped out on the day and gave all the donations for the raffle, big and small.”

She also thanked headteacher Andrew Orme for allowing the school to be used on a Saturday and the teachers for giving up their day off to go and help.

There was a range of craft stalls, plus food available from the kitchen and a large raffle including “a huge donation of things” given by Tesco that raised £215 alone.

There were also games for children, such as “knocking Santa off the chimney,” festive skittles and tombola. Father Christmas himself made an appearance and the school’s glee club performed.

Breage Bright Sparks Pre-school, which is attached to the primary school, raised £99 through their own stalls.
