A schoolboy from The Lizard won his classmates a treat after creating the best cookie recipe.

Matthew Bray, from Landewednack School, was the winner of a competition run by school caterers Chartwells, which provides school meals to primaries across the area.

At Landewednack these are then cooked on site by school cook Helen Matthews.

Last term the company challenged every school they cater for to come up with a special tasty ingredient to add to their cookie mixture.

Matthew’s suggestion of a “Chocanutta” cookie was voted as the best and tastiest.

In return the school and the adjoining Little Lizards Children’s Centre were awarded a day of cooking and cookery demonstrations provided by Chartwells Food development chef Paul Smith.

It included a timed cooking experiment and a talk by Mr Smith about the benefits of different foods.

Headteacher at the school Louise Jones congratulated Matthew on producing his delicious cookie and thanked Chartwells for the “fantastic” day they provided for all of the children in the school and the nursery.
