Youngsters across the Helston area were left enchanted when Santa Claus came to town.

It provided a magical reminder that Christmas was just around the corner, as Santa travelled through the town on his sleigh before stopping off at his grotto in the basement of Bowden’s Home Hardware.

Having brought his reindeer with him for the lights switch on, this time he decided to give them a rest before their big day on December 24 and instead was pulled along by a vintage tractor decorated with twinkling fairy lights.

As well as meeting and greeting all the children, Santa was keen to get involved in all the action by joining in with the Samba Celtica band both with the drumming and dancing.

He even embraced 21st century technology by posing for a “selfie” with one young fan on his mobile phone.

Children’s entertainer and magician Harry Kazzam was on hand to entertain youngsters as they waited to enter the grotto, providing them with balloon models including reindeer “hats”, and he joined Santa on stage along with harvest king and queen, Michael and Daisy-Mai.

Groups and organisations from the town got involved in the evening, including Helston Baptist Church who sang carols and Helston Theatre Company promoting their pantomime Mother Goose.
