A member of staff at the Spar shop alerted police when a customer who appeared to be under the influence of drink while in the shop got into a car and drove off.

The registration number was taken and CCTV checked, leading to the appearance of Marcin Drobny, a farm worker, aged 31, of Goldsithney, at Truro Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Drobny tested at 97 mcg alcohol in breath, nearly three times the limit.

He told the police he had been drinking with friends and had gone out to the shop in Hayle to buy more alcohol after they ran out. He had intended driving home with it.

In court Drobny said he was sorry for what he had done and it would not happen again.

He was put under curfew for 12 weeks and told to pay £145 costs and surcharge. He was banned from driving for 24 months.
