It’s panto season in Helston, so it is perhaps fitting that Cornwall Council appears to have cast itself in the role of the villain in the latest outing for the “poo fairy.”

Back in August last year thepacket.co.uk reported how the newly formed 'Dog Poo Crew' was out and about placing stickers on litter bins, reminding dog owners to pick up after their pets.

These official Keep Britain Tidy campaign stickers featured an illustration of a fairy carrying a full dog mess bag, alongside the words “There’s no such thing as the dog poo fairy.”

It has now transpired, however, that Cornwall Council view the stickers themselves as litter – and have removed them as “fly posting.”

Despite appeals to the contrary, the authority has refused to reinstate the stickers.

This somewhat contradictory state of affairs was highlighted at the last meeting of the town council and raised with Cornwall councillor Judith Haycock – herself a member of the offending Dog Poo Crew.

She said: “Being one of the guilty party, |as one of the people who posted these on bins, I spoke to the councillor for waste and she informed me in her area they had been GIVEN these stickers by Cory. I shall enquire further.”

What a stink...
