A second warning in as many weeks has gone out to dog owners after a lamb was left “mangled” near Godolphin.

The alleged attack took place on rented land that is part of the Godolphin Estate.

It is leased by Mark and Ruth Pascoe, from Boskenwyn, who keep sheep there.

Mrs Pascoe said a 40-kilo lamb almost ready for selling was left covered in blood, with both its ears mangled and half of one ripped clean off.

The emergency vet had to be called out but at the moment the lamb is expected to live.

“If it wasn't for the member of the public pulling the dog off it wouldn't have survived though,” she added.

Mrs Pascoe said her main aim was to make dog owners aware of the heightened danger of attacks during lambing season and the need to keep control of dogs.

She said: “It's coming round for the time everyone is lambing. People need to be responsible and keep their dogs on leads and away from sheep.

“We don't want people to stop walking their dogs, just to be responsible.”

She also thanked the member of the public for his intervention and then staying at the scene for an hour while a message was sent to Mr and Mrs Pascoe.

“I shall be sending him something to say thank you!” she said.

The police have been informed of the incident.

It comes just a week after a heifer was injured near Loe Bar, Porthleven. The seven-month-old heifer, who was being kept in a fenced off private field adjacent to a public footpath, was left with injuries on both her back legs and was placed on antibiotics, although she was also expected to make a full recovery.
