Young pupils at Mullion Primary School used the great outdoors as their classroom when they spent a day at nearby Poltesco.

With a little help from Claire Scott of the National Trust, the school’s Shell class spent the day exploring the area before heading into the warm for some classic Cornish fairy tales.

The visit incorporated the children’s current class topic on size, with evidence of giants and pixies around corners and hiding in the woods.

After a trail that took them through the footpaths, woods and cove, the children all made a spriggan or knocker which they hid in the woods.

Class teacher Mrs Rice, who is also assistant head at the school, said: “It is such a wonderful experience that we have on our doorstep. We are so fortunate to have this in our area.”
