For the first time in history Helston's mayor will be fitted with a tracker device as he walks the routes at the head of the Flora Day dances.

The data will be used for an online map, which will show a flashing point indicating where Mike Thomas is at any time during the dances.

This should allow people to see how far away the dance is from them.

Helston Business Improvement Partnership, which is behind the idea, has already received pledges of £1,000 towards the £1,500 needed to make this possible and Wendy Radford-Gaby said any donations, big or small, would be welcomed. These can be made online via the Visit Helston website.

HBIP also plans to live stream the dances online again, which it did for the first time last year.

This year, however, the plan is to make it even better, with improved quality cameras and better locations. In total there should be ten cameras at different points around the town, provided the group raises the necessary funds.
