There is still a possibility that Helston Community College could become a single site when rebuilding work takes place.

This was the news from Cornwall Councillor Andrew Wallis when he spoke to the town council about the school’s successful funding bid, revealed ten days ago.

Although no set figure has been given by the government, Mr Wallis said the work was roughly expected to cost in the region of £20 million.

The scheme, which will see the complete rebuilding of C-block, D-block and E-block on the school’s north site, is one of the largest approved bids in the country, he added.

Cornwall Council and the school had put in three different options to the government’s Priority Schools Building Programme: for just C-block, for C-block and D-block, and for a whole school rebuild.

Although it received the middle option, Mr Wallis told councillors that when the Department for Education and Education Funding Agency carried out a detailed survey of the school in the next few weeks they could “also look at whether we can rebuild the school into one, instead of having split sites.”
