The crew of the Lizard Lifeboat has been presented with a donation of £170 raised by a pair of beauty salon owners from Mullion.

Melanie Walters and Christine Morey, owners of the Pure Bliss beauty salon, raised the money during the annual switching-on of the village’s Christmas lights, at which they organised a Christmas market.

Thanks to the generosity of visitors to the market and the stallholders, plus extra funds raised through a Christmas raffle and the sale of seasonal refreshments, a total of £170 was collected for the lifeboat station.

By way of thanks, Melanie and Christine were invited to the station at Kilcobben Cove to board the lifeboat ‘Rose’.

The pair presented the cheque to station mechanic Dan Atkinson, who was accompanied by deputy second coxswain Darren Thirlaway, second mechanic Johnny Bray, head launcher Jeff Ashby and RNLI mechanic Paul Gamble.

The salon owners said they were delighted to have been invited to the station, adding they were both especially grateful to Dan, who had supported the Christmas event by dressing in full lifeboat kit throughout the evening.
