Young runners will be put through their paces this Saturday at the 15th Coose Trannack Cross Country Races.

Taking place in the Millennium Woodland at Trannack School, the run is open to competitors of all abilities, from reception years to under 17s, plus running clubs and schools, both primary and secondary.

Created by the former headteacher Dave Finney, the event began life as a fun run for children in conjunction with the five-mile annual Trannack Road Race around Trannack Hill.

In 2000 the first annual Coose Trannack attracted 120 competitors from 15 different local schools. Last year it saw more than 380 runners from 52 schools and clubs across western Cornwall.

David Stott, speaking on behalf of the volunteers and the Friends of Trannack School, which organises the run, said: “This event has a real community feel to it and is a fun but challenging race for all competitors.”

He also thanked everybody who had contributed so far and wished those attending an enjoyable day and good luck to the competitors.

This year’s event has been sponsored by At Your Pace, South West Forestry and Helstonbury, with help also from Sainsbury’s, Slimming World, Nigel Thurley Automotive, Bennetts Fuel and RNAS Culdrose, plus the people of Trannack and Coverack Bridges.

The registration office in the main school hall is open from 8.30am until 11am, with staggered races starting at 9.55am.

Trophies are presented to the winners and runners-up in each of the running club, secondary school and primary school categories.

The first three finishers of each race will receive a medal and all competitors will receive a race number, certificate and a goody bag. The cost to enter is £2.

Refreshments are available on the day and a presentation of trophies and medals will take place at approximately 11.40am.
