The Friends of Helston Museum’s annual general meeting held last week took place on what was a particularly significant date in their diary as it coincided with the group’s 30th anniversary.
The group, one of whose founding members is the previous curator of the museum, Martin Matthews, meets once a week from October through to March in order to raise funds and to drum up support for the attraction.
“We had tea and cake during the meeting to celebrate the anniversary,” said Alison Wilcock, the group’s secretary of two years.
The group is instrumental in funding the museum and works alongside the recently established funding group, Para Hen-Hellys, to ensure its upkeep.
To many people from the Helston area especially those within these two groups, the maintenance of Helston Museum is incredibly important as it is known to hold the largest social history collection in Cornwall.
