Coverack’s Easter Fun Run took place on a glorious day which prompted many of the runners to jump into the sea for a swim afterwards.

The event, now in its sixth year and organised by Coverack Space 2000, raises funds for both the community group itself and the Coverack branch of the RNLI. Almost 30 runners took part this year and raised at least £300 for the two organisations.

There are two routes, one four-mile and the other one-mile, both starting at Coverack Primary School. The runners then follow a marked and marshalled route along coast paths, roads and footpaths around Coverack to finish back in the village. Both routes are described as “quite challenging” and include cliff paths, steep gradients and uneven terrain, meaning the runners have to be fit. The race finished at the Fisherman’s Rest by the harbour in Coverack.

Caroline Beadle said: “This is a ‘fun run’ rather than a race but participants certainly put a lot of effort into their running.”

The top three in the four-mile route were all local youngsters. Joslin Edwards Moore finished first, followed by Joe Tanswell, second; and Nell Savage, third. Joint first in the one-mile event were Gabriel and Lilian.

“All of those who completed the route put in an incredible performance and there are obviously some very athletic families in the Coverack area,” added Caroline. “Once at the finish line, all runners were welcomed back with a drink, a little Easter treat, a certificate and a great sense of achievement.

“The run is a great community event. It is only successful thanks to a big team effort. Many thanks to those who generously gave their time to marshal, provide first aid cover, water stations and more.”

Raffle prizes were donated by many local businesses, but special thanks have gone to The Paris, and the two new businesses in the village, the Old Lifeboat House and Coverack Village Stores.
