A FIRE in a blocked chimney set off a carbon monoxide alarm in an upstairs room warning the occupant of the danger.

Six firefighters from St Keverne attended a call to a property on the Penmenner estate, at 2:13am this morning.

The caller reported their alarm showing a reading of 400 parts per million in an upstairs room.

Fortunately the alarm had raised the attention of the resident and on the firefighters arrival the property was ventilated and the occupant of the house told the fire crews that the chimney may be blocked.

Crews further ventilated the property and after removing the fire from the hearth used chimney rods and a stirrup pump to extinguish a fire in the chimney and remove the blockage.
