The people of Helston are once again being asked to grab their gloves and get busy with the brooms as the annual Town Tidy returns.

With less than a month to go before crowds throng the streets for Flora Day, the Helston Business Improvement Partnership (HBIP) Aesthetics Group is calling for willing volunteers to brighten up the streets as they target a different area every day during a week of cleaning.

The Town Tidy starts on Saturday as volunteers tackle the area behind Boots, the Trengrouse Way car parks and Wendron Street alley, and will run through to Friday with a different area of the town being targeted each day.

Shirley Moralee, the HBIP development officer, said: “It’s something we have been doing for the last couple of years. It’s a fabulous community project, and it’s good to have the town looking at its finest ahead of Flora Day.”

The Aesthetics Group is looking for volunteers and groups to get involved, and will have a gazebo outside the Guildhall on Saturday 10am to 12pm so anyone wishing to get involved can register. All the necessary equipment will be provided by the town tidy team, although volunteers should come ‘dressed to clean’.

Information can be found by emailing helstontowntidy@outlook.com The programme for the week will be: Saturday, April 18, 10am to 2pm, behind Boots; Sunday, April 19, 10am to 2pm, Castle Green car park; Monday, April 20, 5pm to 8pm, Helston Museum; Tuesday, April 21, 5pm to 8pm, front gate of St Michael’s Church; Wednesday, April 22, 5pm to 8pm, Tyacke Road car park; Thursday, April 23, 5pm to 8pm, Memorial Garden; Friday, April 24, 5pm to 8pm, King George V playing field.
