The fishing boats at Porthleven are being put back on the water this Saturday and people are invited to give them a merry send off.

The event will celebrate the boats making it through another winter’s storms that are notorious at Porthleven, and the fishing boats often take the brunt of them.

Celebrations will begin with the launch at 1.30pm, which is expected to continue to 3.30pm. Afterwards, at the crane, there will be a concert of traditional and new songs about the sea by the StormSongs singers, who are an ad-hoc orchestra of local singers and musicians. Their songs tell a Cornish story of shifting coastlines and the beating hearts of coastal communities.

Alan Jorgenson, chairman of the Porthleven Neighbourhood Forum Steering Group said: “It has become clear from the hard work of the StormSongs group, through talking to the people of Porthleven, that the boats in the harbour are very important to us”
