Helston’s largest primary, Parc Eglos School, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015 and is appealing for help in pulling together memorabilia ahead of a special day planned for this summer.

To commemorate the opening of the school in 1965, an open day is being organised for Friday, July 17. This will incorporate the annual summer fair and will feature stalls and activities that reflect, among other things, the fashions, food and music from the last five decades.

During the day, visitors will be treated to topical entertainment by the pupils who will also present a specially written celebratory song. It has also been rumoured that the staff and governors may be putting together some form of turn as well.

There will be guided tours around the school by current year six pupils and the chance to buy a specially commissioned commemorative book containing photographs, memories, and much more relating to the last 50 years of life at Parc Eglos. It is hoped that the book will be launched around Flora Day.

A balloon release and the burial of a time capsule are other events planned for the open day.

Governor Marc Talbot said: “The staff and pupils would like to cordially invite all ex-pupils, ex-staff, parents and the local community to come and join them for this very special day. A ticketed evening event has also been planned with food and entertainment in the school.”

However, to ensure the success of the day, former pupils and their families are being asked to scour scrap books and photo albums to find any memorabilia, such as newspaper cuttings and images, which could be used as part of an exhibition.
